LAWBER

Terms of Service

Version 2026-09-30

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Lawber mobile app, the website lawber.app and related services (together, “Lawber”). Lawber is operated by StopScam LLC, 254 Chapman RD STE 208, Newark, Delaware, 19702, US (“we”, “us”).

By creating an account or placing a request you agree to these Terms. If you are an attorney, the Attorney Terms also apply to you. How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.

Short version for clients: you choose when and where you need an attorney and see the full price before you order. The price is reserved (authorized) on your card and is normally charged only after the attorney who arrived marks the service as completed. If something goes wrong, you can report a problem before the charge or open a dispute within 24 hours after it, and a person at Lawber Support reviews it.

1. What Lawber is — and what it is not

  • Lawber is a platform that helps people find an independent licensed attorney who can come to a court, police station or another place at a chosen time, and that handles scheduling, messaging and payment for that visit.
  • Lawber is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Legal services are provided by the attorney who accepts your request. The attorney is responsible for their professional work and judgment. Lawber employees and our AI features do not act as your lawyer.
  • Your attorney–client relationship, if one is formed, is between you and the attorney. The attorney may ask you to agree on the scope of their representation separately; these Terms do not replace that agreement.
  • Using Lawber, or writing to Lawber Support or to an AI feature, does not by itself create an attorney–client relationship with anyone, and such communications may not be protected by attorney–client privilege.
  • We do not guarantee that an attorney will accept your request, that a particular attorney will be available, or any outcome of your matter or court case.
  • Lawber is available only for the places and types of matters shown in the app. Availability may differ between states.

2. Accounts and sign-in

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement to use Lawber.
  • You sign in with a phone number or email address and a one-time code. One phone number or email address can belong to one account and one role (client or attorney).
  • Keep access to your phone and email secure. You are responsible for activity in your account. Tell us through Support if you believe someone else has accessed it.
  • Give accurate information about yourself and your requests. If you place a request for another person, you confirm that you are allowed to do so and to share their information with the attorney.
  • You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) or at lawber.app/delete-account. If you have a request, payment, dispute or support matter that is still open, the account is closed for new requests first and deleted when nothing is left open. See the Privacy Policy for what we keep.

3. Placing a request

  • You can ask for an attorney urgently (“Urgent now”) or for a scheduled date and time. Dates and times are always those of the place of the service, in its local time zone.
  • You describe the matter, the place, the languages you need and, if you wish, attach files. The attorney sees this information once you publish the request.
  • You say whether you plan to be present. If the attorney needs you to be present, you will be asked to confirm this before the attorney is assigned. Only then does your absence count as “client didn’t show” (see section 7).
  • If you use the AI brief, the description and files you choose are sent to an AI provider to prepare a short summary for the attorney. You will be asked for permission first and can write the description yourself instead. The AI summary may contain mistakes; the attorney relies on your information, not on the AI.
  • You can save a request as a draft and publish it later. A request cannot be published for a time that has already passed.

4. Price

Before you place a request, the app shows the full price and its parts:

PartWhat it is
CalloutThe attorney’s fee for coming to the place, set for the state of the service.
Urgent surchargeAdded to urgent requests only, shown in the price breakdown.
Pre-consultationOptional. A consultation with the attorney before the service, priced by length.
Service feeLawber’s fee for the platform, set for the state of the service.
  • The total shown when you place the request is the maximum you can be charged for it. It can only become higher if you choose to add a Boost — an extra amount of at least $50 that you can offer while the request is looking for an attorney. You see the new total before confirming a Boost.
  • The price is fixed when you place the request. Later changes to Lawber’s prices do not change it.
  • A change to the date, time, place or scope of a request that would change the price requires your new confirmation.
  • Coupons reduce what you pay. The discount is paid by Lawber and does not reduce the attorney’s fee. A coupon cannot reduce the amount charged below the service fee.

5. Payment: authorization and charge

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered into Stripe and are not stored by Lawber.

Authorization (hold)

  • When you place a request, you allow Lawber to reserve (authorize) the total on your saved card later without asking you again, and to charge it as described in this section. This permission covers this request only.
  • For a scheduled request, the hold is placed about 72 hours before the start time (or right away if the start is less than 72 hours away). For an urgent request, it is placed right away. Urgent requests and requests that start within 24 hours are shown to attorneys only after the hold is in place.
  • If your bank declines the hold or asks for confirmation (3-D Secure), the app asks you to confirm or choose another card. If the hold still can’t be placed, the request is canceled at no charge after the time shown in the app.

When you are charged

  • The attorney must mark “Arrived” when they are at the place, and “Completed” when the service is over. Normally, the charge happens when the attorney marks “Completed”. If the attorney never marks “Arrived”, nothing is charged.
  • If the attorney arrived and then the hearing was postponed or canceled, or you did not come when your presence was agreed as required, the full price is charged: the attorney came and did their part.
  • If you ordered a pre-consultation and it did not take place, its price is not charged. The rest of the hold is released by your bank.
  • Backup charge. If the attorney marked “Arrived” but did not mark “Completed”, the held amount is charged shortly before the hold would expire (about 6 hours before), so that it doesn’t lapse while the matter is unresolved. The attorney is not paid from it until Lawber Support has reviewed the request, and you can dispute it within 24 hours as described in section 9. Support can refund you fully or partly.
  • You are never charged more than the maximum shown when you placed the request plus any Boost you confirmed.

6. Urgent requests

  • An urgent request is shown to available attorneys once the hold is in place. The app shows how long the search will last. You can extend the search by 15 minutes as many times as you want, as long as the attorney can still arrive by the time you need them.
  • You can set the latest time the attorney must arrive by. After an attorney accepts, the app shows the time by which they must arrive.
  • If no attorney accepts in time, the request closes and the hold is released. You can start a new search.

7. The service day

  • Before the service day, you see the attorney’s photo, state of license, languages and number of completed Lawber requests. Their name, messages and calls become available on the service day (for an urgent request — right away).
  • On the service day, you can message and call the attorney in the app. Calls are not recorded. If the attorney chooses to share their location, you can see where they are on the map.
  • The attorney marks “Arrived” in the arrival window shown in the app. If they don’t mark it by the deadline, the attorney is treated as not having come: the request is canceled, the hold is released and a coupon used on it is returned.
  • When the service is over, the attorney marks “Completed” and says what happened (service provided, hearing postponed or canceled, or client didn’t show) and what they did. You see this in the request.
  • The attorney can mark “client didn’t show” only if your presence was agreed as required and after waiting at least 30 minutes and trying to contact you in the app.

8. Cancellations and changes

If you cancel

  • You can cancel a request at any time before the attorney marks “Arrived”, including after the scheduled time has started. Nothing is charged and the hold is released.
  • After the attorney marks “Arrived”, the request can’t be canceled. If something is wrong, report a problem (section 9).

If the court postpones the hearing before the attorney arrives

  • You can tell us in the request (“The court postponed the hearing”). The request is closed without charge and a draft with the same details is created for the new date.
  • If your request included a pre-consultation, you can choose to keep the consultation only. Then only the consultation price is charged; the rest of the hold is released.
  • If it is not clear what happened, Lawber Support decides after checking with both sides.

If the attorney can’t come

  • An attorney can withdraw from a request before arriving. We then look for another attorney. If none accepts in time, the request closes and the hold is released.
  • If an attorney who has arrived reports that they can’t continue, Lawber Support reviews the situation and may arrange another attorney. You are not charged more than the maximum of your request because of a replacement.

9. Problems, disputes and refunds

  • Before the charge you can report a problem in the request: the attorney didn’t come, marked arrival but wasn’t there, or didn’t provide the service. Nothing is charged while Lawber Support reviews it. Support can release the hold or return the request to work.
  • After the charge you or the attorney can open a dispute in the request within 24 hours. One dispute can be opened per request. The attorney’s payout is paused while it is reviewed.
  • While a problem report or dispute is open, both sides can add information to it in the app. Support may ask you for more details.
  • To review a problem, Support may read the messages about this request. You give permission for this when you open a report or dispute.
  • Support may decide on a full refund, a partial refund, or payment to the attorney. Refunds go back to the card that was charged; the time until they show on your statement depends on your bank.
  • A refund can’t be more than the amount charged to your card. The coupon part of a price is not paid out in money.
  • The 24-hour window is how Lawber’s own dispute process works. It does not limit any rights you have with your bank or card issuer, or under law.

10. Coupons and referrals

  • Coupons are issued by Lawber, have no cash value and can’t be exchanged for money. The conditions of a coupon are shown in the app.
  • If a request with a coupon is canceled or expires without a charge, the coupon is returned.
  • If only part of a coupon is used (for example, when only a consultation is charged), the rest may be returned as a new coupon.
  • Referral rewards, when offered, are given after the first completed request of the invited person.

11. Support

  • You can contact Lawber Support in the app (Support chat) or with the form at lawber.app/support. In the app, an AI assistant answers first and passes the conversation to a person when needed or when you ask.
  • Requests about an active urgent case are handled first. We do not promise a fixed response time.

12. Using Lawber responsibly

  • Use Lawber only for real requests and lawful purposes. Don’t create false requests, impersonate anyone, or harass, threaten or abuse attorneys, clients or staff.
  • Pay for requests arranged through Lawber through Lawber.
  • Don’t interfere with the app or other users’ accounts, or try to access data you are not allowed to see.
  • We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, puts other people at risk or is used for fraud. Where possible, we tell you why. Open requests and payments are then handled as described in these Terms.

13. Your content and ours

  • You keep your rights in the text, files and messages you add. You allow us to store, process and show them to the people who need them to provide the service (the attorney, and Support when you ask for help or open a dispute), and to use service providers for this as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • The Lawber app, website and brand belong to us. You may use them only to use Lawber.

14. Our responsibility

  • We operate the platform, process payments according to these Terms and review problems and disputes in good faith.
  • The legal work and advice are the responsibility of the attorney who provides them.
  • The app depends on your device, networks and third-party services (such as payment, maps and messaging providers). We work to keep Lawber available but can’t promise it will always work without interruption.
  • Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under law that can’t be limited by agreement.

15. Changes to these Terms

  • We may update these Terms. Each version has a date shown at the top. If a change is significant, we will ask you to accept the new version in the app before you place or accept new requests.
  • A request is governed by the version in effect when it was placed.
